| | B-Mar Wounded Bait Fish |
B-MAR Wounded Baitfish designed by Bruce Marino; fly fishing guide and contract fly designer for Pacific Fly Group.
Bruce has designed the B-MAR Wounded Bait Fish, a full series of realistic fly patterns based on a single tying style.
The B-MAR Wounded Bait Fish is tied in various sizes from a couple of inches long up to a foot or more in length.
The fly is designed to act like a wounded bait fish (hence it's name) by floating or fluttering about when little or no line tension is imparted.
The Wounded Baitfish is keel weighted which allows it to track in an upright position when retrieved. Pause the retrieve and the fly flutters about, rising like a wounded natural, enticing vicious strikes from predators.
Heres the recipe:
*Please keep in mind that this pattern's size and coloration is adjustable to imitate various types of baitfish.
Hook: #1 - 7/0 Stainless (adjust size as desired) Weight: 2 lead strips, one on each side of hook shank Thread: White Flat Waxed Body: Pearl MEGA BODY or Pearl E-Z BODY Tail: Ultra Hair, inserted and tied to the end of the tubing, glued and trimmed to a "V" shape Underbody: White closed cell foam (sheeted), color as desired with permanent markers to match baitfish Eyes: Prismatic Doll Eyes
Tying Steps:
1) Place hook in vise and tie in a strip of lead on each side of shank, secure, cement and tie off.
2) Cut foam into desired fish shape and color to taste with permanent markers. Place a strip of silver mylar tape to each side of body 1/3 from bottom.
3) (this step is done w/o vise) Insert a bunch of Ultra Hair into tubing end, secure, cement and whip finish. Trim tail into a "V" shape.
4) "Thread" or "Worm" the hook through the tubing, place hook back into vise.
5) Insert foam body into the tubing from the front, re-attach tying thread. Make a few loose thread wraps around front of tubing and slowly bring thread under tension, this allows the tubing to neatly compress. Secure, whip finish and cement.
6) Epoxy eyes into place.
7) Go fishing!!
